What is a Turkey eVisa?
There are two ways you can apply for a Turkey visa. You can get it in person at a Turkish embassy or consulate, or you can get an eVisa online. An eVisa is an electronic document that allows you to apply online and print out your visa when it’s approved. While getting your Turkey visa application online is faster and easier than applying in person, you still need to follow strict requirements. Here’s what they are and how you go about applying.
Where can I get my eVisa?
You can apply for your eVisa on this website. Click here, answer a few questions, and print out your visa. If you need help filling out your application, take a look at our Turkey visa support guide with step-by-step instructions for applying for an electronic Turkey Visa Online. The application process only takes a few minutes (don’t forget to save it in case you want to revisit it later), and before you know it, you’ll be well on your way toward getting on with your trip!
Which countries participate in the eVisa program?
Currently, Turkey’s electronic visa program applies to travelers from 46 countries. If you do not fall into one of these categories, you must apply for a traditional tourist visa before traveling. Amongst those eligible for eVisa are US citizens and most EU nations, including France, Germany, and Italy. However, at the time of writing (November 2018), Switzerland was not listed as a participating country on the official website and people in possession of Swiss passports may need to apply for traditional tourist visas before traveling. To be absolutely sure your passport is eligible, call your nearest Turkish embassy or consulate.
What are visa-on-arrival fees in Turkey?
Most foreign nationals can enter Turkey by air and pay a visa-on-arrival fee of $20 USD. Those who travel by land or sea must purchase a visa at an embassy or consulate beforehand for about $35 USD (costs vary by country). In addition, all visitors are required to have proof of sufficient funds (usually $50 USD per day) in order to enter Turkey. Many nationalities also require a valid passport that will be used while traveling in Turkey and will be returned upon departure. A few nationalities don’t need a valid passport to enter. For information on other visas and restrictions, see our guide on how to get your Turkey visa online.
What documents do I need for an online visa application?
When applying for a visa online, you will need a passport valid for at least 6 months after your planned date of entry into Turkey. In addition, you will need proof of financial means (at least €60 per day/per person in your group), round-trip tickets or confirmed itinerary, and confirmation of hotel reservations (if applicable). If any of these documents are not available on your credit card account, they must be uploaded as scanned copies with your application. Proof of accommodation and transportation should be provided within 72 hours of submission. Each applicant must pay an application fee before making a Turkey Visa Application Online; if payment is made by MasterCard or VISA, it must have been done in Turkey with a Turkish bank.
How long does it take to get a visa?
To find out how long it will take to get your visa, you must first know what type of visa you are applying for. Short-term visas that last between one day and one year fall under a category called Schengen visas, named after The Schengen Agreement. The most common Turkey tourist visa is a three-month Schengen visa. For a non-EU citizen coming into Turkey, there are two ways you can apply for your Turkey tourist visa online: through an official VFS Global center or directly at Turkish consulates overseas.
Can I get a multiple entry visa with an online visa application?
Yes, you can get a multiple entry visa with an online visa application. Depending on which country you are planning to visit, Turkey gives you up to 1 month of visa-free stay. If you want more than 1 month of staying in Turkey, then you will need a multiple entry visa. Please make sure that your passport is still valid for at least 6 months since your arrival date in Turkey, otherwise, you may have problems when going through immigration control at Turkish airports. Also, make sure that all necessary documents are sent properly and arrive at Turkish diplomatic offices before 14 days from your departure date from Turkey, or else your application will be canceled and thus cannot guarantee an online e-visa application any longer.
Is there a cost for the online visa application?
For most travelers there is no cost associated with an online visa application, however, a few countries do charge a small fee. If you are interested in applying for your Turkey e-visa and would like to know if there will be any charges, please contact your nearest Turkish embassy or consulate for more information.
